Buderim House

Forever-home with permaculture gardens

Buderim House was established for a couple looking to build their forever-home, with accessible considerations that will allow them to keep their future in mind. A granny flat was incorporated into the design to allow a dwelling for a potential carer to reside with them.

A shared entry walkway to both the main residence and granny flat blends with nature by incorporating elements of biophilia. This was achieved by imprinting concrete with leaves, use of timber and translucent materials to fill the space with light and feel close to nature. These design elements flow from the external into the internal spaces of the home through a dividing feature wall made of Wood Stone; a masonry alternative product that is mainly sawdust, and has low embodied energy, it is sustainable yet has an elegant aesthetic.

It is always an important design consideration to fill a home with North facing light. Our Clients recognised the importance of this but wished for main living spaces to face south as they wanted a private home. This created a unique design challenge that we are always eager to resolve.

Internal spaces include a specifically designed Tai Chi space which can double as a second living space, an oversized garage for a campervan and a garden that was carefully designed to Permaculture principles.

“Brett and his team at Ecolibrium delivered and then some.  Brett was extremely thorough and had tremendous patience to work through our requirements in detail. He is very knowledgeable about the wide variety of materials and methods for eco-friendly design. We also took advantage of the interior design service that Ecolibrium provides and we found it was incredibly valuable for choosing interior and exterior finishes. We are absolutely delighted with the final outcome of our new home.  Good outcomes stem from good design, and the investment in Ecolibrium’s services was absolutely worth it. We would not hesitate in recommending Ecolibrium to anyone who wants a great eco-friendly house.”
