The Time for Biocentrism in Sustainable Building Design is Now
Recently, I stumbled upon the definition of biocentrism, a philosophy that resonates with my approach to life on this planet. It underlines the perspective of how we see ourselves living on this earth; as caretakers, entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing the Earth or as mere guests, free to exploit the planet without considering the consequences.
In a world teetering on the brink of ecological crisis, the sustainable building industry stands as a beacon of hope. Yet, it’s frustrating to see many industry leaders continuing with business as usual, seemingly blind to the urgent need for change or deeming it too difficult to put changes in action. Biocentrism, explored in Marcelo Gleiser’s book, The Dawn of a Mindful Universe, presents a scientific perspective urging the building sector to prioritize life, leveraging available knowledge and technologies to create structures actively contributing to environmental regeneration.
Biocentrism proposes that life and biology are central to the universe, and it’s time for the building sector to heed this profound message. We have the knowledge and technologies at our fingertips to design buildings that not only mitigate harm but actively contribute to the regeneration of our planet.
Imagine buildings that generate energy, clean the air, and support biodiversity. Picture structures that mimic the efficiency and resilience of natural ecosystems. Biocentrism challenges us to rethink our approach, to prioritize life in all its forms, and to take full responsibility for the impact our creations have on the planet.
Ecolibrium embraces Biocentrism as a fundamental philosophy, shaping our commitment to designing homes and habitable environments that foster harmonious living for all. Beyond a mere priority, Biocentrism and sustainability are key values that drive us to create stunning, sustainable solutions tailored to meet your needs. Join us on this journey of continual learning and improvement as we take responsibility and make a positive impact.
The time for complacency is over. Let’s shift the paradigm, embrace biocentrism, and design buildings that breathe life into our world, forging a sustainable, regenerative future for all.
